Hospice Services

What is hospice, and what are the top three benefits of Hospice?

Hospice is a service provided to a patient to assist with care when they have an illness that could result in death six months or less if the disease follows its course.  Many conditions can lead to death; this may include but not limited to cancer, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, end-stage dementia/Alzheimer’s disease, and many others.

Hospice as a Team

Hospice is a team that includes physicians, nurses, home health aides, social workers, spiritual advisors, and volunteers that provide the patient and their family knowledge regarding disease process.

Management of symptoms

Once on hospice, the patients will receive care that focuses on the management of symptoms, emotional support, and symptom management to ease suffering and pain. Our team is trained, and some are certified in palliative care.  The hospice team is knowledgeable in medications to manage symptoms such as pain, shortness of air, or nausea.

Medical Equipment

As the disease progresses, the patient may require additional equipment like a wheelchair, hospital bed, home oxygen, and so forth. The hospice team will access your needs and provide that equipment when needed to help the patient with activities of daily living and safety. Hospice also provides personal care supplies to patients to assist with comfort.
